I think most of us would agree that we live in confusing times. Not because God is confused but surely because we His creation have distorted His truth. This confusion finds itself often rooted in feelings opposed to what God has ordained. A clear example of this is transgenderism. According to the American Psychological Association, “Transgender is an umbrella term for persons whose identity, gender expression or behavior does not conform to that typically associated with the sex to which they were assigned at birth.” At the heart of the APA’s definition—and at the heart of the transgender movement itself—is a sharp distinction between sex and gender. Personal feelings drive this confusion. They separate sex and gender at birth and say God got it wrong. Of course, this is a sad commentary on our society and the “experts.”
The Bible clearly says that God created our lives, our souls, and our bodies. Genesis 1:26–27 states this truth: “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” This is not just true of Adam and Eve– but of every human being descended from them. Genesis 5:1–2 says, “This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created.” This simple truth—that God created each one of us—means that we did not create ourselves. Psalm 100:3 declares, “Know that the Lord Himself is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” We had no involvement in our birth. We were wonderfully made by God. We were given our lives. And God was not confused when He created you.
You have a divine purpose, being created in the image of God for His glory and for His kingdom. The lie of transgenderism is that there is no God-“givenness” to our bodies. Transgenderism enthrones us as creators with a self to express and a body to shape, while the Bible honors us as creatures with a divine image to reflect and a divine design to embrace. Sexual differentiation, male and female, was God’s idea. God didn’t create a race of males or a race of females or a race with fifteen different sexual kinds. By design, God chose to show forth his image by making men and by making women—neither independent from the other, and neither identical to the other. 1 Corinthians 11:11–12 confirms this: “However, in the Lord, neither is woman independent of man, nor is man independent of woman. For as the woman originates from the man, so also the man has his birth through the woman; and all things originate from God.” Knowing that God is not confused, embrace and enjoy His creative design for you. He always gets it right.
